The home in Yorkville, had a great location being in the centre of Toronto. Shops, and restaurants were within walking distance. The parking though in this area is very limited and the old car port had seen better days and was ready to fall down.
We convinced the home owner not to give up the idea of removing the car port all together. This added the convenience of their own covered parking space and added premium value to the home.
We decided to tear down the old rotting structure and rebuild a new car port. A beautiful outdoor seating area was designed underneath the structure, which was also able to accommodate a separate work shops storage unit under the stairs. Large footings were poured to ensure the structure was on a solid foundation and large retaining wall was build to protect the back yard since it was a sunken in. A French drain was installed in the clay rich soil of the backyard in order to help with water flow and snow melt.
The new car port was built out on steel I beams in order to withstand a car being parked on top and was insulated and clad with wood and then painted to give it a beautiful aesthetic look. New black natural stone pavers were installed as well as a custom pergola bench.
