Water front Thornbury home on Georgian Bay

This home previously had a natural stone landscape done in 2017 along the waters edge with a gazebo and fire pit. In 2019, Georgian Bay water levels were at an all time high. This resulted in the waves washing away all of the beautiful landscape.

The home owners loved the previous patio but did not know what to do with the unpredictable water levels of Georgian Bay. They were sceptical of rebuilding that close to the waters edge. We understood their desire to rebuild and insure them that it could be rebuilt to withstand mother natures wrath.

The Process

We started with a clean slate and built a large retaining wall out of large granite boulders along the beach to protect the landscape from crashing waves. We then place large Gabian stone and clear gravel as a solid base for a newly poured 800 sq long concrete pad with 10mm rebar. This would insure that this patio is built to last. Large limestone and armour stone were placed along the front edge of the patio for extra protection as well as a beautiful aesthetic. The entire concrete patio was then fitted with jumbo flagstone to create a beautiful finished patio. Each flagstone was templated, mortared and vacuum fitted into place.

We also tied in a lovely walk way out of the jumbo flagstone from the home to the patio. Beautiful gardens on either side of the walk way were designed with low maintenance perennials. The customers were estatic to have their patio back and know that it was built to last and enjoy for a life time.
