The Thornbury home was built in 1942 with 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a small kitchen. It was used as a Waterfront rental property but was outdated and needed a lot of TLC. The goal was to create an open concept and make the home more user friendly.
This took some careful planing to work within the existing structure and not reengineer the entire home, thereby increaseing costs. A bedroom was removed on the main floor to make the kitchen area larger and create an open concept living, dining and kitchen area. The main floor bathroom was split and 2 bathrooms created, one powder room and an on- suite for master bedroom.
Ceiling joist were reconstructed to give added support. The 70’s popcorn ceiling was removed and replaced by an updated tung and grove style. Old paneling on the walls was removed and new wain scotting was put in its place to give the home a fresh new look. We added all new hardwood floors throughout the main floor. Schluter heated floor was put into every bathroom with new tiles .
A stone feature wall in the master bathroom, glass shower and hanging toto bidet toilet took this bathroom to a new level of elegance. Finally a brand new kitchen with gas stove, then a custom floor to ceiling fire place with book shelf was also added in the main floor. Pocket doors were used in all bathrooms to make better use and functionality of the small space.
